2025 Ed Rae Memorial Fun Fly Event Report

Event Date
Description

This year’s Ed Rae event was postponed from Saturday to Sunday because the forecast was calling for calmer winds on Sunday than Saturday.

The day started out as a beautiful day, light winds and kind of cool. The mozzies were out in force! As the morning progressed, the temperature became more June-like and the wind picked up (good old mother nature pulled the patented switcher-roo on us!) One good thing about the wind it kept the mozzies away (I hates them!)

By the time the 9:00 morning brief happened we had 25 registered pilot’s and a fair number just out to enjoy the nice warm weather and pleasant day. The wind kept up, but wasn’t terrible and not too many had any trouble with it since it remained, for the most part, down the runway from the east.

There were generally at least 2 -3 planes in the air most of the time. And I noted that even when there wasn’t a lot of flying, everyone was enjoying the weather and having a great social gathering.

Lunch was served by Robert and his great crew. (many thanks to them for taking care of the canteen!)

Pilot’s draw’s we made after lunch, we had several gift cards from Great Hobbies and Hobby Hideaway (many thanks to them for supporting our club!). Make sure you make some kind of effort to support these businesses because they support US!

After the draws, there were two presentations (which Pierre has reported on) by our zone director and the MAAC president.

Afterwards, flying resumed. Things started to peter out by about 2:30, but there were still a few that took advantage of the more open skies and got a number of flights in.

I am happy to report that we had no incidents or crashes everyone when home with the same number of planes in the same number of pieces.

All in all, I would say the Ed Rae 2025 was a success, everyone enjoyed themselves, most got a flight or two in, ate some burgers and hot dogs, and chewed the fat with friends. A good day in my book.

I would like to especially thank the volunteers that donned the orange vest, helped out with the running of the event, and especially Pierre Coulombe for his efforts and his calm guidance. We will greatly miss him here at Stetson’s Flyers.
